Housing is our passion.
We are working on transforming what’s possible by choosing to do what’s right for the community we live in, for the environment, and for the owners and residents of the homes we create.
About Us
Neighborhood Flats is a social impact development company led by Michelle Winters, a housing expert with deep ties to Arlington’s housing ecosystem. Michelle was one of the voices that advocated for Arlington County to adopt a new approach called Expanded Housing Options a.k.a. Missing Middle Housing. With almost 30 years of experience working in the housing industry, Michelle knows how important it is to expand the supply and diversity of housing in well-located communities like Arlington.
Michelle and her husband Chris have created Neighborhood Flats as a family business with a mission, committed to demonstrating how this kind of housing can be a win-win-win.
Principles
First and foremost, Neighborhood Flats is committed to creating homes for people and families with a variety of needs and resources. New homes are expensive to build, but by making efficient use of space and land, and making the right design choices, they can be brought within reach for a wider range of homebuyers in the area.
Each home is designed to blend seamlessly into its surrounding neighborhood, with features and scale similar to other new and traditional homes in the area.
Properties are designed to be highly energy and water efficient and use the latest sustainable building techniques to increase efficiency, reduce impact on the environment, and promote health and well-being.
Ground floor units are built with a focus on accessibility, providing long-term living options for those who want to age comfortably in our community.
All units are created with privacy in mind. High quality craftsmanship and materials help give residents and neighbors a peaceful living experience through advanced soundproofing.
